Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has called for the immediate arrest of the leadership of the Fulani Nationality Movement ( FUNAM) claiming responsibility over last Saturday’s attack on his convoy.
Ortom made the call on Monday in Makurdi after the State Security Council Meeting at the Benue Peoples House.
The governor said the call for the arrest was neccessitated by the group ownership of not only the recent the recent attack on the governor but of several others in the state.
The governor called on the security agents to immediately arrest Mr Umar Shehu, the alleged leader of the association for claiming responsibility for the attack.
He recalled that ,”In 2018, when more than 70 people were killed in Benue State, the same group called FUNAM came out and claimed responsibility and accepted that they killed them in retaliation for the killing of their people.”
According to him, the issue at hand was far beyond partisan affiliation, ethnicity or religion adding that the association wanted him to repeal the Anti-Open Grazing Law which he said was a collective decision of the people.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari, religious leaders, the APC and the PDP as well as other stakeholders for their show of love and concern over the attack and said he would support the team sent by the Inspector General of Police to investigate the incident.
