The Nigerian Immigration Service ( NIS) says it is currently engaged in talks to remove passport processing from Embassies and High Commissions.
Comptroller General of NIS, Mohammed Babandede disclosed this at a two- day public hearing on the alleged incessant malpractices associated with diplomatic postings and deliberate draining of resources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters and at the Missions organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Babandede said the NIS intend to establish facilities far away from the embassies that would be known as visa processing centres.
The development he noted was in line with global practice and in view of security challenges
According to him, the NIS had already moved visa processing from the High Commission in the UK to Fleet Street and wondered why passports should not be taken to the same place
