Families of three victims of Police Brutality in Bauchi have been awarded N210 million by a Federal High Court in the state capital
Two of the victims, Ibrahim Babangida and Ibrahim Sama Ila were tortured to death by the police after they were falsely accused of stealing 24 chickens belonging to a retired police officer.
The Third victim,Abdulwahab Bello is the only survivor and key witness to the police brutality leading to the death of his friends.
The Presiding Judge Justice Hassan Dikko, awarded the sum of N100 million each to the families the decaesed while awarding N10 as compensation to the surviving victim.
Justice Dikko said the action of the police amounts to infringement of the victims fundamental human rights and dignity.
The three friends were arrested on July 21, 2020 after they were accused of chicken theft .
They were detained at the Township Division A Police station in Bauchi and mistreated by the police.
According to Bello who now limps, a Divisional Police Officer , Superintendent,Baba Ali used a pestle to continually torture him and his two friends who died as a result of the police brutality.
