Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Saturday evening hosted the GrammyAward winning Afrobeat artiste,Burna Boy.
Wike who described the artiste as the pride of Rivers State said he would do whatever he could to promote the singer.
The governor lauded Burna Boy for the honour done by him to the people of the state all over the world and said” You have done us proud and we owe you a fury to show you love. Wherever you are, your people appreciate you”
The Governor afterwards announced a gift of N10 million each to all the artistes who performed at the ceremony.
Burna Boy whose real name is Damini Ogulu, visited Wike in company of his parents,Mrs Bose and Mr Samuel Ogulu and his management team.
The artiste was declared winner in the Best Global Music Album category with his” Twice as Tall album at the 63rd Grammy Award Ceremony held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Los Angeles on March 14, 2021.
Speaking during the reception ceremony,Burna Boy said he was deeply grateful and humbled by the reception and honour accorded him by the Government of Rivers State
He described the reception as the biggest honour that would be bestowed on since he was born
“I really appreciate being here. This is probably the biggest honour that will be bestowed on the since I was born.
” It is one thing to win the Grammy, and to be applauded everywhere else in the world and another thing to be loved in your own home and that to me is worth more than anything I can get”. he said.
