Minister of State for Health Olurunmimbe Mamora has faulted a Bill for an Act to establish a National Dermatology Hospital at Garkida in Adamawa Sate.
Mamora who made this known at a public hearing on Monday in Abuja ,on three bills sponsored by Sen. Aishatu Dahiru ( APC) Adamawa, said that calls for the establishment of the dermatogy hospital was ill- timed given the financial implication and absence of personnel required.
According to him, FederalTeaching Hospitals and Federal Medical Centres have Departments of Dermatogy which should be maintained
He said as much as it is important to pay attention to the issue of dermatology, establishing a hospital for dermatogy which has to do with the skin issues will affect patients opportunity to be co- managed by other specialists.
The Minister who also spoke on the bill seeking to establish a Teaching Hospital for Midi no Adama University,Yola described the proposal as” putting the cart before the horse.
” This is because existing Federal Medical Centres automatically become teaching hospitals following Presidential approval in states that have Federal Universities without medical schools.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health,Sen. Ibrahim Oloriegbe said the bill seeks to set up proper standard for Federal Medical Centres as the FMC’s do not have enabling laws.
Earlier, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan who was represented by the Senate Deputy Chief whip, Sen Sabi Abdullahi said that the proposals were aimed at strengthening health Institutions in the country.
