Today is Easter commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Easter marks the end of Lent and the Holy week which began on Palm Sunday.
Before the resurrection, there was the trial, humiliation , long suffering and then crucifixion and burial of Jesus.
Easter is said to be the Foundation of Christianity.On this important day, Christians go to church to be part of worship which features sermons on the significance of the resurrection of christ and thanksgiving.
In his message to the faithful, The Bishop of the Diocese of Etche, Rt Revd, Okechukwu Precious Nwala said ” Easter is not new to us but its essence, significance and power have daily impact in our lives and foreshadows our ,’ultimate victory and unending joy of the redeemed following the soon appearing Christ.
One key thing it portends is Victory.
Victory over man’s inhumanity to man, disease, the flesh and death.
” It is on the strength of the above that we celebrate God’d faithfulness in seeing is through the global Covid-19 pandemic and it’s attendant health and economic challenges he said.
According to the cleric, Christ victory embodies sufficient grace to overcome challenges as long as Christians do not allow the overwhelming challenges to derail their faith.
” In our work and service to God and humanity, we are enjoined to increase rather than be discouraged by the numerous adverse and perversive events that are unfolding by the day as indicative of the signs of the end, Because OUR LABOUR IN HIM IS NOT IN VAIN he added.
On his part, the Bishop of Okrika Diocese , Rt Revd, Enoch Atuboyedia described the resurrection as the bedrock of the Christian Faith.
“Without the resurrection, the belief in God,’s saving grace through Christ will be doubted.
” The resurrection was a real,literal, physical raising of Jesus body from the dead. ,”he said
He quoted Apostle Paul as explaining that resurrection is not just a fundamental part of the Gospel,but it is the glue that holds every part of the Gospel together without which Christians see believing in vain and without hope,”
” But since Christ has rosen,we have hope of having our sins forgiven,being made right in God,’s sight, and having eternal life through Christ ,”
,”Believers will enjoy the resurrected life just as Christ did, with glorified bodies raised in power” he said.
