Akwa Ibom Government has disclosed plans to extend the state flagship,Ibom Air to the Gambia and other countries in the West African sub region.
Governor Udom Emmanuel said this while receiving the Gambian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Mohammadou Musa Njie,at Government House,Uyo on Monday.
Emmanuel who expressed gratitude to the Gambian High Commissioner and the President of the Gambia for indicating interest in bilateral relations with Akwa Ibom state in the area of Commerce, Industry and Aviation development said the State plan on adding regional flight with Ibom Air after it had taken delivery of two brand new A220 300 series Air buses.
” We are actually planning a regional flight with Ibom Air,so we hope by next month we should take delivery of two brand new A220 300 series Airbuses, which will be used for regional flights”
The governor said he would discuss the flight extension to Banjul, the Gambian capital at the Board of Directors meeting and advised other West African countries to take advantage of the tourism potentials that Ibom Air offered.
Earlier, the High Commissioner had lauded the governor for the achievements recorded by Ibom Air and expressed the willingness of his country to have Ibom Air commence flight operations in the Gambia.
He also presented a letter from the President of the Gambia, President Adamma Barrow inviting the governor for a visit to strengthen trade and Industrial relations.
