There has been an attack on the Owerri Correctional Facility and the Police Investigative Department by hoodlums in the early hours of Monday.
It was gathered that the unknown arsonists set fire to the two facilities freeing an unspecified number of inmates.
A social media user said heavy gunfire was heard on Monday morning across the state capital.
