The Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Mohammad Dingyadi has inaugurated the Police Public Complaints Committee to address complaints against police personnel in the country.
Dingyadi while inaugurating the Committee on Wednesday said the commitee was created as a specialised institution to deal strictly with complaints against Police personnel.
The Minister noted that the PPCC had been in existence over the years but had been moribund due to lack of funds.
According to him, the focus of the new Committee was to put in place a permanent structure that would among others, help to effectively check civil unrest and provide the populace with opportunity to channel their grieviances on the misconduct of police personnel to the appropriate quaters for neccessary action.
He said the tragedy that befell the country during the#EndSARS protest would have been averted if the PPCC had been active adding that the Federal Government was determined to ensure that such incidents never occurred again.
Members of the Committee include the Ministry of Police Affairs as Chairman, Police Service Commission, Ministry of Justice, the National Human Rights Commission and the National Intelligence Agency.
Others are the CLEEN Foundation, the Nigeria Police, Police Community Relations Committee and the Department of State Services with the Police Inspectorate Department to serve as secretariat.
The Minister said the commitee would also oversight activities of police personnel in relation to their interaction with the public.
He urged the commitee to work in a transparent manner that inspire Nigerians with confidence that their complaints would receive fair, just and equitable treatment .
