The Nigerian Army says it has commenced the engagement of veterans of the Army in tackling Insecurity in the country.
This was disclosed by the Chief of Army Staff,Lt Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru on Tuesday while declaring open the First Quarter 2021 Veterans Affairs Directorate workshop in Port Harcourt.
The COAS who was represented by the Army Chief ofAdministration,Maj-Gen. Abdulrasheed Aliyu, said the Army decided to engage them considering the security challenges bedeviling the country which the retirees and everybody has a role to play to securing the country.
According to him”, the seminar seeks to tap into the wealth of experience of retirees in tackling the nation’s diverse security challenges,as well as prepare and strengthen them to play important supportive roles in curbing the spate of crime and criminality “
He added that the engagement of the retirees was part of a plan to reposition the army to professionality, defeat all Internal and external adversaries.
In his address, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Army 6 Division,Port Harcourt, said the participants were drawn from formations,units and communities in the southern part of the country.
He said participants would deliberate and proffer solutions to towards the nation’s security architecture.
