Kidnappers are demanding N20 million ransom for release of Ekiti Traditional ruler,Oba David Oyewumi.
Oyewumi, the Obada of Ikemesit Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of the state,was abducted by gunmen who invaded his palace last Thursday evening.
A source told newsmen that the gunmen scaled the palace fence and shot sporadically to scare his subjects before taking the monarch away.
The source said the gunmen contacted the family on Saturday to demand the ransom.
The Police Command in the state however, said it was not aware of ransom being demanded.
The Police Public Relations Officer,Mr Sunday Abutu said the police and other security agencies were taking all measures to rescue the Oba.
” We are working with other state agencies in this regard and also working on intelligence gathering we have at our disposal”.he said
He said the police would do all it can to prevent a repeat of such crime adding that it is relying on information from the members of the public.
” We work more on information we found to be veracious.” he said.
