
Gunmen on Saturday attacked Omuma, the country home of the Governor of Imo State, Sen Hope Uzodinma killing two security operatives.
Omuma is located in Oru East Local Government Area of the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Declan Emelumba confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Owerri on Saturday.
Emelumba said that the attack which took place in the early hours of Saturday saw some part of the main building torched with some casualties recorded.
The commissioner added that two security operatives lost their lives during the attack as opposed to unconfirmed reports that several security operatives were killed.
According to him, the security operatives, one of whom was an officer of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were on duty when the building was attacked.
He called on residents of the area to remain calm and law abiding adding that the situation was under control.
He further directed security agencies to commence investigation into the incident with a view to unraveling its perpetrators.
” It is true, but the information is not still clear. It is not true that several security men lost their lives. About two security men on duty at the governor’s house were killed.
” One NSCDC personnel was among the security men who lost their lives during the attack. The governor has directed full investigation into the incident to unravel its perpetrators”, he said.
Soldiers have taken over the community amid growing fears of insecurity.
