Communites around Ogbakiri road in Emohua local government area leading to the three Kalabari local government areas, Asari- toru, Abonnema , and Degema local government areas of Rivers were on Monday morning , panic stricken following hours of intensive battle between hoodllums and security operatives.
An eyewitness who scampered to the bush on hearing the rain of gunfire, said he was trying to get a vehicle to Buguma when he heard the sound of gun repeatedly and he had to take cover for sometime in the bush before crawling back to where it was safe for him.
It was learnt that the roads leading to the three lgas are still deserted.
Rivers is steadily turning to a killing field in view of reports of killing in the last few days.
Recurring cult clashes and killing and attack on police and military locations in parts of the state have created fear and panic among residents who are unsure of the next direction the pendulum of clashes would swing to.
On Sunday, hoodlums struck along the Omagwa, Isiokpo and Elele axis of Ikwerre Local Government Area LGA killing no fewer than 9 security operatives including soldiers carting away their patrol vans and guns.
A day after, hoodlums. reportedly attacked and killed 5 soldiers on routine duty along Abua Odual road also in Rivers forcing a meeting of the Army on Monday.
