The All Progressives Congress has described the late Oba of Ogbaland, His Majesty, Eze Chukwuemeka Nnam Obi the second as a straight forward Monarch whose actions conferred respect on royalty and the revered traditional institution of his people.
The party said in a statement issued on Monday in Port Harcourt, that it was shocked by the news of the demise of the Eze Ogba .
The APC noted that the news of the Oba came to it as a hige shock given his attributes as a fearless and transparent monarch who brought respect to the traditional institution in the state.
The statement by its Spokesman, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke reads;
“The news of the death of the Oba of Ogbaland, widely respected by many Nigerians across the country, has come to us as a huge shock.
“We recall that the late Oba spoke truth to power, raised the moral consciousness of the Rivers people, and brought respect and dignity to the Rivers State Traditional and Chieftaincy Institution, particularly during years of military rule.
“It was as a result of his fearlessness and transparency that the Oba served for many years as a Patron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
“As a Monarch, the Late Oba responsibly rallied together the Ogba people. And laboured tirelessly to safeguard the age-long customs and traditions of the Ogba Kingdom.
“The Rivers State has indeed lost a great patriot, Royal Father and statesman who believed, not only in the oneness of the Rivers people, but in the unity of the Nigerian nation.
“While we take solace in the numerous roles that Oba Chukumela Nnam Obi played to promote growth and progress throughout his Kingdom, we mourn with members of the Royal Family and the good people of Ogbaland that he left behind.
“We pray that the Good Lord would grant him peace and mercy as he begins the homeward journey to eternity.” It said
Eze Chukwuemeka Nnam Obi the second, was one of the youngest kings installed in the country.
He was known for his sermon on his throne and was a reporter’s delight.
His speeches flawlessly delivered, his presence greatly admired by his subjects and strangers alike.
He was a rare breed traditionally groomed, educationally exposed with unmatched hospitality and milk of human kindness.
Ogba culture was personified in him.
The sage of the past present and even generation .
It would be recalled that the late Eze Ogba alongside long deceased Amanyanabo of Okrika,Sir S P. U Ogan, fiercely opposed the execution of Ogoni Rights leader,Ken Saro- Wiwa by the Military Government of General Sani Abacha, in 1995.
