
The Wakama Community in Kirikese ,Rivers State has been thrown into mourning following the death of one of its sons Major Robinson Soye Wakama.
Wakama, a gallant officer of the Nigerian Army passed on while defending his fatherland against the Boko Haram terrorists in Maiduguri.
Major Wakama was said to have looked forward to his promotion to the rank of a lieutenant colonel in January 2021, having passed the necessary examination, but was yet to see that dream fulfilled before his death.
Several officers and men of the Nigerian Army have fallen in battle against the enemy identified and suspected.
Recently, there were allegations of sabotage and selected killings within the rank and file of the Army, but the Army dismissed the reports as baseless.
On March 14 2021, Boko Haram terrorists attacked a military convoy in Gudumbali in the Lake Chad region of Borno State killing 15 soldiers and four members of the Joint Task Force.
On April 26,2021, 31 soldiers lost their lives including a lieutenant Colonel who was their commander.
The troops were killed when Boko Haram and ISIS fighters ambushed a military convoy escorting weapons and overran a military base in the town of Mainok outside Maiduguri.
The terrorists were said to have attacked the convoy with rocket- propelled grenades before storming the military base.
The Mainok incident is reportedly the biggest onslaught on Nigerian troops this year.
