The Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen Chris Ngige has called on the Governor of Kaduna State,Malam Nasir El-Rufai not to allow the ongoing labour strike in Kaduna to degenerate to a state where it becomes uncontrollable.
Ngige who made the appeal on Tuesday evening said that the industrial action had already grown out of proportion into a full national strike and appealed to all the parties involved to step down action
The Minister’s statement signed by Charles Akpan, Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations in the Ministry said the Federal Government had waded into the strike and picketing in Kaduna state urging El- Rufai and the two National Labour leaders, Ayuba Wabba President, NLC and TUC President,Qadri Olaleye to immediately ceasefire.
The 5 – day Industrial action by the labour unions began on Sunday with power outages across Kaduna State.
The peaceful protest by the workers was however disrupted on Tuesday by thugs allegedly sent by the governor.
El- Rufai had also declared Wabba wanted,a decision that made labour to picket the Kaduna State Government House with threats of a nationwide strike.
Already, Unions such as NUPENG and Electricity have threatened to shut down their services in solidarity with the Kaduna strike .
