The death of the Chief of Army Staff COAS Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru on Friday in Kaduna has thrown the country into shock and mourning with many calling for immediate probe of the crash.
Attahiru who was known for his Anti Boko Haram stance was on Friday evening killed in a plane crash.
The ill-fated Military Beechcraft 350 crashed within the neighborhood of the Kaduna International Airport killing all 11 passengers on board.
The late Army Chief was said to be on official assignment in Kaduna when the plane crashed.
The COAS has been described as a rare military personnel in view of his feat against the Boko Haram terrorists.
He was in charge of Operation Lafiya Dole, under the former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Burutai and redeployed before his appointment as Chief of Army Staff by President Muhammadu Buhari on January 26,2021 .
Many Nigerians however,see a connection between the death of the general and the reported death of Boko Haram terrorists leader,Shekau and urged the Federal Government to thoroughly investigate the crash which they alleged might have been staged.
Daniel ,an Abuja based entrepreneur asked the government said the death of the general was suspicious as his appointment as COAS gave the terrorists sleepless night.
” It is sad to hear that the COAS is no more. He was one man giving the terrorists sleepless nights and only 24 hours ago we heard that Shekau died and now Attahiru is no more.
” Look at it this way, Was it a coincidence that Boko Haram leader died yesterday and today, the man who planned to fight the terrorists to a standstill also perished?
Government has to do something to immortalise him by carrying out thorough Investigation. It appears there are people who are happy with the destruction going on in the country.
Another man who preferred to be anonymous said he believed that the crash was abnormal describing Attahiru as a gallant soldier and leader who paid the supreme price for Nigeria to breathe.
” We have lost a rare soldier. He was one of a kind. Why is it that good people don’t last? I smell a rat somewhere. He gave Boko Haram a tough fight and now he is dead. I hope the government will begin Investigation immediately to find out why the plane crashed. We need to break away from the cycle of carnage in this country” he said.
