Burial rites were performed on Saturday in Abuja for the Late Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 personnel who died in the military plane crash on Friday evening in Kaduna.
The ceremony which featured 21 Gun Salute by Guards of Honour amid sombre situation, had several top government officials in attendance including Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and some members of the Federal Executive Council .
President Muhammadu Buhari was represented by the Minister of Defence,Maj- Gen Bashir Salihi Magash ( Rtd)
Speeches were made in memory of the life and times of the departed officers.
In his speech, the Chief of Defence Staff CDS, Man.- General Leo Irabor, said it was love for country that led to the gloomy news of the death of the COAS and other military heroes.
He said the COAS was billed to attend the passing out parade of new recriiuts
The CDS described the late Attahiru as a brilliant and gallant soldier who worked very closely with him saying” he was truly a fine officer and a gentleman”
Before the intermet of the deceased at the National cemetery, prayers were held in Mosques and Churches..
The military plane ,a Beechcraft 350 aircraft crashed on Friday evening in Kaduna.
Although Investigations are ongoing , airport and military authorities link the crash to bad weather.
