Agitators for creation of Yoruba nation on Saturday paralysed activities in Akure, Ondo State capital, with a peaceful rally, saying there is no going back on the actualisation of Oduduwa Republic.
The rally was populated by members of Ilana Omo Oodua, comprising of youths market men and women, who came from the 18 local government areas of the state to show their support for the peaceful rally for secession of the Southwest region from Nigeria
The rally headed by Mr.Sunday Adeyemo,popularly known as Sunday Igboho, visited the palace of Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo, where he briefed the traditional ruler about the reasons for the agitation for secession of the Yorubas from Nigeria.
Adeyemo emphasised that the current politicians were only busy looting the common common wealth of the nation without recourse to the survival of the common people.
He said the Yorubas were tired of being marginalised the in appointments and infrastructure projects awards.
Adeyemo also expressed his displeasure over incessant killings and kidnappings going on in the country and the seeming “lackadaisical attitude” of the government towards the crimes
“The secession has become inevitable because our people can no longer continue with the suffering unleashed on us by the government.
“I want to assure you that there will be no election in 2023 because the Yoruba would have pulled out of Nigeria before then,” he said.
Adeyemo urged the youths to continue to respect elders, particularly the traditional rulers, saying that they have declared their support for the agitation.
Adeyemo, who claimed that they already had the support of all governors in the region, promised that they would pursue the agitation to success without violence.
The Deji of Akure, urged the agitators and Akure residents to pursue the agitation without fomenting trouble.
Oba Aladetoyinbo, who was represented by the Edemo of Akure Jingdom, High Chief Afolabi Fayehun, prayed for Adeyemo and all his entourage, wishing them all safe trip back to their various destinations.
The National General Secretary of Ilana Omo Oodua, Chief Opeoluwa Akintayo, also declared that the Yorubas are pulling out of Nigeria because of disrespect for the principles of true federalism by the Federal Government.
Akintayo said the Yorubas were marginalised in the area of employment into federal ministries, departments and agencies, irrespective of their academic qualifications.
