The Chairman,Board of Directors Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation NDIC, Mrs Ronke Sokefun, has decried difficulties in recovering closed banks’ assets in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A statement by the Director, Communication and Public Affairs, Mr Bashir Nuhu, in Abuja on Tuesday quoted Sokefun as saying this when she visited the FCT Minister, Mallam Mohammed Bello.
She urged the ministry to evolve measures of supporting the corporation towards recovering assets belonging to closed banks within the FCT.
Sokefun said that NDIC had faced severe challenges paying depositors funds trapped in the closed banks because of the difficulties in accessing the property.
“We are facing difficulties arising from poor documentation by the banks, revocation of title by authorities and litigations.
“The support of the ministry towards recovering these property will help us to discharge our deposit guarantee mandate,’’ she said.
Also speaking, Mr Bello Hassan, NDIC Managing Director said the corporation would require the support of the ministry to effectively manage closed banks’ assets.
“As a liquidator, we are interested in the assets of closed banks, we need to work together in the situation we currently have at hand,” he said.
Responding, Bello said that the ministry was committed to assisting the corporation in resolving issues around the property of closed banks in the FCT
