The member representing Aboh Mbaise/ Ngor Okpalla Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Bede Eke, , has given the Nigerian Army 14 days to respond to a petition accusing soldiers of killing one of his constituents.
Eke, who issued the ultimatum at a news conference on Thursday in Abuja, alleged that the constituent, Nzeribe, was shot dead by soldiers at a military check point in Owerri because he could not obey the rules.
The legislator alleged that his constituency had come under serious military operations as many shops have either been burnt down or looted leaving people of the area to their fate.
“We lost the young man, who until his death, owns and operates a Shawarma shop just to make ends meet.
“He (Nzeribe) was shot by soldiers because he could not obey the rules at the check point.
“The family has written a petition to the army; we as the people of Ngor-Okpalla/ Mbaise are not happy about it.
“As the representative of the people, I want to make it known to the world that we are waiting for the outcome of that petition.
“I am giving the Nigerian Army 14 days to respond to the killing of that gentle man who left a pregnant wife and two children; one is three and other two years old.
“What will become of these children and the one that is yet to be born? The fact that we gave government our land to build airport does not make us criminals,’’ he said.
Eke who represents his constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, further alleged that many of his constituents had been killed following the unfortunate killing of the former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Ahmed Gulak on the airport road in Owerri.
