Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom says no part of Benue land will be allowed for grazing.
Ortom’s statement followed President Muhammadu Buhari’s interview with Arise TV on Thursday where he said he had asked the Attorney General of the Federation to recover land used in the first Republic for grazing routes from those who have converted to personal use.
While speaking at the funeral of a Benue indigene,Pa Daniel Akanga Ape in Tse Ape in Ushongo Local Government Area of the state at the weekend said the open grazing law in Benue was still in force and anyone who violates it would be prosecuted.
The governor said the people of Benue will resist any attempt to seize any part of their land
Ortom’s statement comes a few days after Bayelsa State Governor,Duoye Diri statement on open grazing.
Diri on Saturday in his Democracy Day message, said that the anti grazing law of the state remains
According to the governor, the statement by President Buhari validating grazing routes is not applicable to the state as Bayelsans are fishermen.
Southern Governors had taken a firm stand on open grazing,a practice they claimed was an attempt by the fulani ethnic group to forcefully take over their lands .
