No fewer than18 persons were feared dead at the early hours of Wednesday at Ajilete, Idiroko Expressway, Ogun State.
The Sango-Ota Area Commander of The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement TRACE, Mr Adekunle Ajibade who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Ota, Ogun, said that the accident occurred when a commercial bus collided with a petrol tanker.
Ajibade said that the accident happened at about 8.45 p.m.
He explained that the tanker, loaded with 33 litres of petroleum, heading towards Idiroko, was trying to climb the sloppy Ajilete axis when a commercial bus rammed into it due to alleged excessive speeding.
He said two motorcycles, a commercial bus and a tanker were involved in the accident adding that, rescue operations involving TRACE, Federal Road Safety Corps and the Police are still ongoing to rescue survivors.
