Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu has stressed the need for the Organised Private Sector (OPS) to domesticate critical technology used in the country.
The Minister who made the call when he received the Management of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (TRANSCORP) Plc., in his office on Tuesday in Abuja said the move would engender rapid industrialization in the country.
He said the deployment and peaceful use of nuclear power technology will improve the production of electricity and provide sustainable, reliable electricity that will not be affected by environmental conditions.
Onu noted that achieving rapid industrialisation of the country in a sustainable manner, was one of the targets of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration
While highlighting the role of Executive Order 5 in promoting Nigerian professionals, the Minister also placed emphasis on the role of science, technology and innovation (STI), and promotion of the development of indigenous technology.
“Executive Order 5 is critical to Nigeria’s development, as the Federal Government wants to domesticate all foreign technologies used in Nigeria,’’ he said.
The Minister expressed optimism that Nigerian firms and experts would utilitise, the nuclear power technology as well as other alternative sources of renewable energy adding that those technologies could earn Nigeria additional foreign exchange if the expertise of Nigeria experts could be exported outside.
The Managing Director of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (TRANSCORP) Plc. Peter Ikenga had, said his company is determined to surpass the transmission of sustainable and alternative sources of electricity around the country.
