The House of Representatives on Wednesday received the report of a bill for an Act to repeal the Electoral Act.
Rep. Aisha Dukku, the Chairman, Committee on Electoral Matters laid the reports before the House during plenary in Abuja.
The bill is seeking to repeal the Electoral Act 2010 and enact the Electoral Act 2021 to regulate the conduct of Federal, State and Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory elections.
A member of the committee,Rep Ugouna Ozurigbo had raised a point on matters of privilege that he received information that the House Committee on Electoral Matters had altered the bill.
There had been insinuation in some quarters that there were alterations in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.
But the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila on July 6 refuted the claim, saying there was no alteration in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill as being speculated in some quarters.
He, however, said that he spoke with the chairman of the committee and she said there was nothing of that sort .
“I have asked the chairman of the committee and she said that nothing of such has been done,”
