The House of Representatives has passed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill with a caveat that electronic transfer of election results may be considered on the grounds that network coverage provided by the National Communication Commission is adequate and secure.
The House on Friday also had a rowdy session following resumed debate on the controversial Section 52 after the Executive Commissioner of the National Communication Commission Adeleke Adewolu told the House that the election results can only be transmitted by a 3 G network which guarantees coverage of only 50 per cent of the country.
Shortly after the new amendment was carried, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP lawmakers staged a walk out claiming that the amendment was not carried.
Minority Leader Ndudi Elumelu in a press briefing said the leadership of the house deliberately disinvited the INEC Chairman from briefing them describing the move by the APC dominated house as a move to truncate democracy in the country.
