As the Delta variant of the Covid-19 births and number of infections and hospitalisations rises in Nigeria, the federal government has placed six states and the FCT on red alert.
The states are Lagos, Kaduna, Oyo, Kano Plateau, Rivers on Red alert .
A statement issued early Sunday morning and signed by the chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19,
Boss Mustapha.noted that the nation had, in recent time, continued to witness “worrisome early signs of the third wave of the pandemic”

The statement however warned that all states of the Federation must heighten their state of preparedness and continue to enforce all protocols put in place.
The PSC said it would continue to minimize the risk of importation of Variants of Concern into the country by strengthening Surveillance at all Ports of Entry ( PoE), enforcing extant quarantine protocols and sustaining the current restrictive measures against travelers arriving from India, Brazil, Turkey and South Africa.
While the Commitee felicitates with the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, It however,urges state governments and religious leaders to be mindful of the potential for wide spread of the virus during large gatherings and therefore recommends decentralization of Eid prayer to neighborhood Friday Prayer Mosques ( outdoor)
Other measures are Suspension of Durbar activities and Observation of limitations on all indoor gatherings.
