The Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) FCT Council, has postponed its security colloquium scheduled for Monday to discuss and offer solutions to security situation in the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement issued in Abuja, jointly signed by Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche and Ochiaka Ugwu, Chairman and Secretary of Council respectively, noted that the postponement was done to give room for more stakeholders’ involvement and residents’ participation.
The statement informed that the rescheduling was to reach out to more stakeholders given the premium NUJ FCT places on security and its stand to be part of all genuine efforts towards ending insecurity in the territory through advocacy and dialogue.
NUJ FCT reiterated its earlier position to always converse and aggregate opinions on any issue of national importance and always hold government account for the people.
The statement stressed the need to carry all stakeholders along as edging anyone out in the planning and execution of the colloquium will be counterproductive.
According to the statement, “We have to reschedule to accommodate all. There is every need to involve the uninvolved in this colloquium. All stakeholders are very important in the conversation on security challenges in the territory. Security is everybody’s business and there is need to have more residents participate.
“As a matter of fact, FCT has had its own fair share of security challenges and residents are the worst hit, hence they are indispensable to any serious effort aimed at ending the security conundrum”.
FCT Council says it highly regretted the inconveniencies the postponement will cause, but promised that a new date will be announced after due consultation with real stake-holders and residents alike.
