
Today is World Hepatitis Day.
The World Hepatitis day is observed each year on 28 July to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes severe liver disease and hepatocellular cancer.
This year’s theme is “Hepatitis Can’t Wait”.
Zonal coordinator of the Viral Hepatitis Association of Nigeria, Samson Emerole told our correspondent that the association is working with over eight Rotary Clubs in Port Harcourt to create more awareness and give free vaccines against the silent killer disease killing someone every thirty seconds.
Samson Emerole said the case of spread of the Hepatitis disease is prevalence in Rivers State.

Zonal coordinator of the Viral Hepatitis Association of Nigeria, Samson Emerole said ignorance and carelessness of people are responsible for the increase cases of the disease.
According to him, the ignorance of people using herbs to treat the disease is also responsible for deaths related to the disease.

Our correspondent reports that the Rotary clubs include, Rotary club of Port Harcourt Garden City, Eco, Skywaves, Abuloma, and Woji town.
Others include Rotary Club of Port Harcourt North, City Valley, Cosmopolitan and GRA.
