The Nasarawa State Government, has confirmed that armed robbers on Monday carted away N11, 700, 000 from the State Ministry of Finance and Planning.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Dogo Shammah, Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism and made available to newsmen on Friday in Lafia.
“Armed robbers trailed our officials of the ministry, who had gone to withdraw N11, 700, 000 from a second generation bank along Jos road in Lafia, attacked them at the premises of the ministry and went away with the money.
“The money was meant to take care of the furnishing and refurbishing of some offices and vehicles as well as host a team from the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, who were scheduled to visit the state,”Shammah explained.
The Commissioner said that reports in some sections of the media that the robbers went away with over N100, 000 million meant for the salaries of casual workers was not true.
He added that the allowances of casual workers were being paid from the monthly overhead cost of the ministry.
