The Board of Trustees BoT of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP on Thursday at the party secretariat in Abuja waded into the internal crisis rocking the Party.
, According to the leadership of the BoT , Members have resolved to set up a Committee that would reconcile aggrieved parties in a bid to properly reposition the party .
Calls for sack of the National Working Committee had mounted by some governors who have their eyes on higher offices, who fear that the continued stay of the Secondus- led NWC could jeopardise their aspirations and those of their loyalists.
For that,they had mounted pressure for the setting up of a caretaker committee that would oversee the affairs of the party until the next convention.
However, The embattled National Chairman of the party Prince Uche Secondus has sounded a note of warning to the party leadership that it would be foolhardy to make such attempt now as doing so would have severe consequences on the party.
“Anything contrary to the smooth running of our party towards the remaining three months will not be good for our party.
” Any dislocation will cost an infraction that will result to several unknown issues that we may not be able to come out of” he warned.
The BoT has given the nod to the advice of Secondus but urged against further implosion in the Party while also asking the Rivers Governor ,Nyesom Wike who was in attendance to stop forthwith the running down of the Party Chairman.
Wike and his former ally, Secondus-have for some time now become strange bed fellows owing to what is reportedly believed to be insubordination and flagrant abuse of power on both sides.The party primary in Port Harcourt which produced former Vice President,Atiku Abubakar was said to be the genesis of the cold war between the two men. While Wike wanted the Sokoto Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to fly the party presidential ticket and persuade his men to do same, Secondus was said to have followed the direction of the former Vice President.
Analyst believed that without Secondus,it would have been difficult for Wike to become governor of Rivers State as the events that led to the disbanding of the PDP structure then led by the late Chief G.U Ake was the instrument of the PDP National Chairman . That incident enthroned the new leadership of the PDP in the state.
