The National Caretaker/ Extraordinary Convention Planning Committe of the All Progressives Congress APC says no cause for alarm in the beefing up of security operatives at the party headquarters in Abuja.
Secretary of the Committee, Senator James Akpanudodehe who spoke to newsmen at the party headquarters said the party decided to invite the security operatives as a result of the disturbing security threats it was privileged to receive in the early hours of Monday.
Dismissing as false insinuations of party squabbles, Akpanudodehe who said that all the security agencies in the country are represented at overseeing the security of the party headquarters ,disclosed that the party took the proactive step to forestall destruction of lives and property.
” When we receive security report the normal thing for any administration to do is to secure the lives and property of the Secretariat and the party members.” He said the presence of the police does not in any way prevent access to the secretariat..
Akpanudodehe was earlier quoted as saying that the improved security presence was as a result of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country., “people come into the party secretariat without observing Covid-19 protocols and it has become a concern for the party.
He said due to instreaming into the party secretariat by people of all kinds, the security at the headquarters became overwhelmed therefore the need for improved security there adding that as a ruling party,it ” could not be seen to be violating the safety protocols for COVID-19″
Earlier, the improved security presence at the party secretariat had been misconstrued by Nigerians to be the fall out of the dispute (real or imagined) between the Vice President,Yemi Osinbajo and the Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Salami over the supreme court ruling on Ondo governoship election which has multiple interpretation .
As a matter of fact, the VP was alleged to have ordered the security presence at the party secretariat having been empowered by President Muhammadu Buhari to hold the fort for him.
