The Senate Minority Whip Philip Tanimu Aduda, representing FCT, has called on the Indigenous people of Federal Capital Territory to be more United to achieve a common goal and purpose of attaining greater heights in governance despite their political differences.
Senator Philip Aduda, made the call in Abuja, in commemoration of this year’s world Indigenous day 2021.
The Senator emphasised that for the demands of the natives of Federal Capital Territory, there is need for Stakeholders and political leaders to think first about FCT with united efforts demanding for justice, social discuss and fairness from Federal government of Nigeria for the indigenous people of FCT.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Honourable Abdullahi Candido, said the Federal Government should urgently look into the plight of the Indigenous people of FCT to further avert any agitation that will disrupt peace in the Territory.
Candido called on the natives of FCT to involve other Nigerians in addressing the challenges in FCT.
In a keynote address, Professor Dada Sunday, faculty of Education, University of Abuja, urged government at all levels to always Honour Social Contract between it and her citizens to avoid agitations that may lead to breakdown of law and order in the country.
The Federal Commissioner of Public Complaint Commission, Representing the FCT, Comrade Ezekiel Dalhatu and the pool Coordinator of Coalition of FCT Indigenous Groups, Honourable Kamal Adamu, noted that FCT natives deserve equal rights and privileges by having three Senators, three House of Representatives and other political Positions as obtained in other states of the Federation.
The event was part of activities to commemorate the International day of Indigenous people, which brought together the Nine Indigenous tribes in FCT that Consist of Gbagyi, Gbari, Gade, Bassa, Gwadara, Ebura, and other tribes. This year’s world Indigenous day theme is Indigenous people and new contract.
Highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of certificate to former Leader, Comrade Ezekiel Dalhatu, for a job well done, and now the Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission and display of traditional Dance of Amwamwa, Dodon-Mango masquerades and cultural dance by various other groups.
