The Former Governor of Imo state and Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District in the Senate,,Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s attempt to stop the Imo State Government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC from further confiscating his properties across the country hit the brick wall as Court declined his application to restrain the parties.
Okorocha’s motion on notice for the restraining order was filed by his counsel,Oba Maduabuchi ( SAN).
Counsels to EFCC and Imo State Government however, contended that the court had no jurisdiction to hear Okorocha’s suit adding that the matter is not such to be heard during court vacation.
A high court in Imo had in February ordered the interim forfeiture of all the properties said to be acquired through illegal means by Okorocha
The order by the presiding judge, Justice Fred Njemanze followed an ex parte application filed by Imo Government counsel, Louis Alozie ,(SAN).
Alozie prayed the court for an order of forfeiture on the grounds that the said properties, which were for the public, were converted to personal use by the Senator, his wife and their cronies.
The properties include”Eastern Palm University,Ogboko, Royal Spring Palm Hotels and Apartments,IBC staff quaters for the purpose of Rochas Foundation College, Magistrate quaters, Girls Guide office, and extension of Ministry of Women Affairs skills acquisition center for women illegally acquired for the benefit of his wife.
