The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has described the approval by the Federal Government to carve out 368 grazing reserves across 25 states as cruel and dictatorial aimed at grabbing the lands of the people who genuinely loved and voted for him in 2015 and 2019.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday approved the review of 368 grazing reserves in 25 states of the country.
Ortom’s statement contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary,Terver Akase on Friday said Buhari’s administration was not bordered by the killing of innocent people by terrorists but preferred to force grazing reserves on the people to further plunge the country into avoidable crisis.
The Governor said millions of people particularly farmers have been displaced and chased into IDP camps in pitiable condition with food crisis ravaging the country,”yet what is more important to the president is the wellbeing of cows”
” The country has been turned into a cow republic by the present administration and the basic principles of equality, justice, fairness and equity which engender peace and suppress anarchy are non- existent” he said.
He said President Buhari has yet to prove anyone wrong about the accusation of being a Fulani President by his critics adding” But Buhari is not the first Fulani man to be President of the country.
” Nigeria had Presidents Shehu Shagari,Umaru Yar’Adua who were also of Fulani ethnicity., but were Presidents for all Nigerians and treated citizens of this country fairly and equitably.
The statement added that the Nigeria has never been more divided on ethnic lines and sentiments as it is under President Buhari who was thought to be the most prepared to lead the country at this time”.
