The President, Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) Mrs Salamatu Farouk Yahaya on Monday laid foundation for Six blocks of class rooms and two staff offices for nursery and primary schools in Giginya Barracks, Sokoto . She also donated food items to widows of Giginya Barracks and women of Luga village in Dange Shuni Local Government.
In her remarks the NAOWA president said the rational behind building additional 6 blocks of class rooms was to expand the school and support soldiers family to improve the quality of education in the barracks.
According to her, soldiers are deployed for various internal security operations across the country therefore, it is the responsibility of NOAWA to take care of their families so that they can concentrate in tackling the security challenges bedeviling the nation.
She added that quality education will enable barracks children compete favourably with their counterparts any where in the country as such, the education of children in the barracks was her priority children for national development .
Mrs Yahaya also donated tables, chairs, office equipment to the nursery and primary schools
The wife of the Army Chief also paid courtesy visit to the Governor of Sokoto State, Right Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and his wife. Later, she proceeded to visit the Sultan of Sokoto His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.
Governor Tambuwal while receiving NAOWA’s President assured her of his administration’s support for NAOWA in projects that wouldl improve the life of barrack communities.
Tambuwal promised to liaise with various stakeholders to support NAOWA so that they could meet their objective of developing the capacity of less privileged in the society.
As part of her activities in 8 Division, she also paid courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding 8 Division/ Commander Joint Task Force (Northwest) operation HADARIN DAJI Maj General Uwem U Bassey, and visited the Division Hospital where she presented relief materials and cash to patients.
In a bid to know their needs and address them accordingly,Mrs Yahaya used the visit to interact with families of soldiers and widows .
