Hurricane Ida’s remnants flood the city of New York and New Jersey after causing major damage in Louisiana. The rain accompanied with storms and a tornado warning prevented the US Open in Queens,New York when the rain filled the roofed stadium sideways.
The Hurricane killed about 46 people in the Gulf and Northeast US this involved several people who were killed in their basements as well. At least 13 of the victims were from New York. 900,000 are left without power and water due to the hurricane
Hurricane Ida is described as historic climate crisis event by authorities.It is also the fifth strongest hurricane storm.
At around 11:30pm, Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a state of emergency for New York.
He declared that New York City was “enduring a historic weather event with record breaking rain across the city, brutal flooding and dangerous conditions on our roads.”
He also warned New Yorkers to stay indoors.
At around 9pm, a tornado warning was issued for parts of the Bronx region after radar indicated that a tornado had formed.
Newark Liberty International Airport recorded about 3.24 inches of rain.They also announced that all flight activity was suspended.
Passengers were advised to contact their airlines with regards to flight & service resumption.
President Joe Biden is set to meet with Louisiana officials on Friday regarding communities that were affected by the storm as well as to survey the damage caused by this category 4 storm.
