The stage appears set for the President of Nigeria to rotate to the South following the decision of the Zoning Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP to zone the office of its National Chairman to the North .
Chairman of the Committee, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu stare made the declaration in a Communique at the end of a meeting on Thursday.
According to the statement, the decision of the party’s zoning commitee is in line with the constitution of the party on zoning and rotation of party and national offices in the interest of justice, equity and fairness.
It added that current officers being held by officers in the southern zones of the country, namely South West, South East and South South Zones should swap places with offices currently in the northern zones of Nigeria, namely North West, North East and North Central zones.
The committee however stated that it’s decision to zone the party’s offices does not in any way affect the executive and legislative offices in the country as it does not have the mandate to do so.
The committee was constituted on September 9,2021 with the mandate to zone national offices to be contested by all members of the party at the national convention scheduled to hold on October 30 -31 2021 in Abuja.
The foregoing decision of the PDP is seen by many nigerians as an endorsement of Powershift to Southern Nigeria.
Maurice,a politician described the PDP decision as a welcome development as he said
” Other political parties should emulate the PDP. It has done the right thing. It has set the stage for a southerner to emerge as presidential candidate..
” In all, trust, fairness, equity and justice is what unites a people and that should also include power sharing.he added.
