A Police Sergeant attached to Divisional Police Station,Kolo, in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State was on Tuesday killed by gunmen who invaded the Police Station at about noon.
The gunmen reportedly invaded the station and carted away arms including the rifle of the deceased.
Current matters learnt that the incident occurred when the gunmen numbering about six opened fire on a three- man police team carrying out their stop and search duty in the area. The police were said to have made attempt to reply the gunmen but they were overwhelmed by the gunmen fire which injured the policeman leading to his death in a nearby hospital while others scampered to safety.
The Police Spokesman of the State Police Command, Asimin Butswat confirmed the incident saying that the police are investigating the incident.
