…State Governors,Serving Senators, Ministers Fight Dirty over Party Control
The plan by the All Progressives Congress APC to proceed to the next level of governance at the end of the Buhari tenure appears to be tilting towards shark infested waters as no fewer than one third of its states yesterday conducted pararell State Congresses .
The states affected are Abia, Lagos,Ogun,Kano,Osun,Kwara,Akwa Ibom and Niger State.
Congress in Taraba and Oyo were postponed as a result of violence.while states like Jigawa,Imo,Rivers Delta,Ekiti , Bayelsa, Rivers, Plateau and Ondo reported peaceful conduct of the congress.
Lagos parallel congress conducted by former governor Akinwumi Ambode was reportedly preferred by the Buni- led APC Caretaker Committee,a move said to frustrate the presidential ambition of the Jagaban of Lagos, and Former Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
However, the faction loyal to Tinubu said the only congress acceptable in Lagos was that conducted by the state government under the watch of Governor Babajide Sanwo- Olu.
In Ogun the battle raged between the former governor, now serving senator, Ibikunle Amosun, and successor,Dapo Abiodun locked horns resulting in two congresses with early violence recorded in the venue of the Amosun organised Congress.
In Kwara State, the fight between the Minister of Information and Culture,Lai Mohammed and his estwhile political ally, and incumbent Governor,Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, resulted in two congresses as their differences appear irreconcilable .
The fight between Serving Mimister and former Governor of Osun State,Raul Aregbesola and incumbent Governor and alleged political godson of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu , Gboyega Oyetola made paralell State Congresses inevitable as both factions rather than bury their hatchet, lifted it further to cut interferers to size .
Niger state situation was more pathetic as the governor Bello led faction reportedly ran away from mounting opposition in the party and held a parallel congress in a hotel.
In Akwa Ibom,it was fight to finish between the camps loyal to current Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the Secretary to the APC Caretaker Committee, Senator James Akpanudodehe. Two parallel Congresses were reported in the exercises.
Nigerians watch what the APC would do to address the lingering internal problems as the party moves toward conducting its National Convention,
