As part of activities to commemorate the world Hand Wash, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt has donated eight water wash hand basins and some waste disposal bins to the Community Senior and Primary schools one and two Olanada, Rumuola.

President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Mike Ezeanya who led members of the club to the school hand over the completed and working hand washing basins and disposal bins to management of the Community Senior and Primary schools one and two Olanada, Rumuola said the gesture is to encourage hand washing among children and prevent outbreak of diseases peculiar to children. “Although handwashing with soap is critical in the fight against infectious diseases, including COVID-19, globally, around 3 in 10 public schools do not have handwashing facilities with water and soap available. Further long-term investment in water, sanitation and hygiene can help prevent the next health crisis from coming especially in these public schools,’’ he said.

Ezeanya urged governments to commit to providing hand hygiene, not as a temporary response to the pandemic, but as an investment in public health and economic resilience.
