The Board of Directors of the Ken Saro -Wiwa.Foundation ( KSWF) says it will not accept the proposal by President Muhammadu Buhari to grant pardon to the nine Ogoni Rights activists executed by late Military leader,Sani Abacha in 1995.
The Foundation in a statement signed by Dr Owen Wiwa, asked the President to grant the family’s earlier request for the exoneration of Saro- Wiwa and eight others.
The statement said that Ken Saro- Wiwa and the other eight Ogonis were not criminals but innocent activists unjustly killed for fighting a just cause on behalf of their oppressed community
According to the statement, the path to true peace in the region begins with justice saying the first good step was cleaning up of the environment for which they campaigned and died while the exoneration of Saro- Wiwa and eight other Ogoni activist was another step towards peace and justice.
” The family and the foundation have not asked any individual to ask for pardon or clemency for Ken Saro- Wiwa on their behalf, nor are we aware of any group of Ogonis making such a request..” it said.
