.. Faults Gov. Lalong For Breaching Constitution
. . Seventeen Members of the 25 membership Plateau State House of Assembly have dismissed the impeachment on Thursday of the speaker ,Abok Ayuba ,by 8 members of the Assembly describing the move as unconstitutional and cannot stand.
The members who spoke with newsmen in Jos, the state capital, said they were surprised to hear that the State Governor, Simon Lalong whose government is anchored on the constitution of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria could have a hand in such illegality .
The member representing Jos South in the Plateau State House of Assembly,Gwattson Fom said that majority of the lawmakers had arrived at the Assembly premises early enough to start the day’s plenary but were prevented from entering the Assembly premises by the Police said to have come from Government House.
” We were prevented by the police and we were told that the police that came, from the Government House to effect this illegality on the people of Plateau State.
” As far as the law is concerned, nothing has happened, nothing took place,there is this illegality and it shall not stand.
” Eight people cannot impeach a speaker on the Plateau This is democracy, Lalong is powerful today because of democracy.”He said.
Ayuba was accused of financial impropriety.
Meanwhile, the new Speaker,Yakubu Sanda has been presented to the governor represented by Secretary to the Government of the state..
