…9 Persons Rescued So Far
The number of deaths in the ill-fated 21 – storey building located on Gerard Road Ikoyi Lagos has risen to 21 .
The building which reportedly had the developer and some of his workers and clients inside caved in on Monday morning raising questions about its integrity and those of the workers.
So far,nine people have been rescued while 21 who had been underground in the rubbles have been confirmed dead.
The Lagos Government on Tuesday suspended the General Manager of the State Building Control,Mr Gbolahan Oki.
Governor Sanwo- Olu in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho described the suspension as a first step towards unraveling the cause of the building collapse.
The statement disclosed that the government is also setting up an independent panel to determine causes of the collapse of the building, and to find out whether it was in full compliance with physical planning, and building materials laws of the state as well determine whether there was monitoring by the building Regulatory Agencies of the state.
Meanwhile, rescue efforts are still going on even as Governor Sanwo- Olu visited scene.
The Governor said the rescue efforts was a multi sectoral collaboration made up of the Government and the organised private sector including, Ministry of Health,LASEMA, Julius Berger,CCEC,NEMA and others..
