….. Voting Extended By Hour Saturday
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Anambra State,Dr Nwachukwu Orji has announced the extension of governorship election by one day.
Orji who made the announcement in Awka, the Anambra State Capital Saturday afternoon said that voting will continue on Sunday even as he insisted that the an hourly briefing of the media would help to update all the progress of the election
The INEC commissioner also announced the extension of voting by one hour from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
The extension followed the failure of INEC equipment which caused slow accreditation process in many parts of the state. Also,in other parts of the state where pleople turned out IINEC officials and materials were no where to be found..
One of the candidates, Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA could not vote before voting closed due to INEC System failure.
The Election was reportedly marred by voter apathy in remote communities due to threats by IPOB sit- at- home order earlier in the week.
Our correspondent reports that the reversal of the order by IPOB barely 48 hours to election from field reports did not translate to huge tiurn out of voters in most of the polling units in those areas.
18 candidates are contesting in the governorship election that would determine a winner to serve the state for four years.
