Investing in girls’ secondary education leads to fall in child marriage rates, maternal mortality rates, child mortality rates, and child stunting . Besides, the lifetime earnings of girls rise dramatically, pushing up the national growth rates, according to UNICEF.

Given the new normal, UNICEF, with its theme of Digital Generation, Our Generation for the International Day of the Girl Child 2021, has called upon governments to build capacities of teachers to teach children using mixed means like mobile devices, TV, radio, and printed materials to overcome the challenges of limited or no access to technology, create remote learning content and improve connectivity.

In commemoration of this day, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Garden City, Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Mid-Town, The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Atlantic City and The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Ceapoly beautifully and economically empowered over one hundred teenage girls of the Community Secondary School Olanada Rumuola, opposite Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic.

The teenage girls were trained in various Ankara accessories and adornments as a skill to their economic freedom and also to become inspirited, free women of tomorrow.
The young girls were also joined by their male and female teachers who also learned the craft of making these beautiful accessories.
The elated young female students promised to pass the skills to their other classmates and family members while some have already making a living out of the skills acquisition.
