A community based group, Mothers of Good Hope International Initiative has launched her one hundred million naira Mega School Project and training center for indigent Children in Port Harcourt.
Founder and CEO Mother of Good Hope International Initiative MOHII Egelege Aziemeola Pius PHD, during her third Anniversary and Induction ceremony in Port Harcourt said the Mega School Project which will also serve as a training center, when completed will give free education to the less privileged and homeless children especially in Rivers State, and also train indigent women and widows in various skills to make them economically independent.
“This is our dream and we wish to complete this good dream to enable our indigent children the opportunity to go back to school. This will also create opportunities for our youths in the society,thereby promoting and sustaining peace in our communities,” she said.
Egelege Aziemeola Pius PHD, revealed that the school project estimated at one hundred million naira is hoped to be achieved in five stages: the purchase of ten plots of land, fencing and all paper documentation at twenty million naira. Stage two: foundation up to DPC at fifteen million naira. Stage three: Building up to Decking at twenty-five million naira. Stage four: completion at thirty-five million naira and stage five: commissioning and Academic commencement at the cost of five million naira.
Founder and CEO Mother of Good Hope International Initiative MOHII Egelege Aziemeola Pius PHD, said “ However, tentatively, we hope to complete the project on or before 2025 that four years duration and hope to achieve stage one of the project before the end of 2022”.
She appealed for support from corporate bodies and well meaning individuals to assist the project financially to bring it to reality. “it is said that a hungry man is an angry man, with our children’s education and job opportunity, peace will be sustained in our society. Considering the country’s economy, we cannot depend on our members’ contributions alone, which has been the only means of contribution in carrying out some of our projects. We therefore appeal to the general public to support this project to bring it to reality”, she appealed.
On his part, Priest of the St Jude Catholic Church Rumuokoro, Rev fr Emmanuel Maru said “Globally, there is a staggering number of out-of-school children and adolescents of primary and lower secondary school age. The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) counts 258 million children, and as of 2020, 65,165, 951 of this figure lived in sub-Saharan Africa. The Mega School project when completed will cater for over one thousand homeless children who are out of school in Rivers State. These children will be given free education, free accommodation and free skills training in this facility. So I call on the state government, private organization and individuals to give financial support to this mega school project initiated by Mother of Hope International Initiative, to realize this dream.”
On her part, Chairperson Planning Committee Dr Jummai Madume said the timing of the launch of the Mega School Project was auspicious as homeless children are in dire need of a platform to blossom and thrive for national development.
Succor has come to these homeless children. But don’t fairy-god mothers appear only in Cinderella-esque tales? Well, it turns out that the Mothers of Hope International Initiative has taken to transforming the lives of children on the streets of Port Harcourt through her launch of Mega School Project, to care, empower, and educate. This as a challenge and we decided to solve a problem around education for people who have no home at all, and also to be able to empower and provide care to them, because education cannot be sustainable if people have no stable home at all,” Dr Jummai said.
Our correspondent Precious Ahiakwo-Ovie reports that the MOHII Mega School Project Launch also saw the celebration of the 3rd anniversary of MOHII with Award to recipients, and induction of new members and executives.
Our correspondent also reports that some of the award recipients includes, a gender and Development specialist, Rotarian Emem Okon, Humanitarian Heroine Award, a hospitality specialist, Rotarian Ajoke Hephzi-bah Enebeli.
In appreciation, Rotarian Ajoke Hephzi-bah Enebeli said “MOHII is in the right direction and I identify with such charity organization, I dedicate my award to my late mum Gladys Fabode who was selfless in her charity work”.
