… As College to train Resident doctors to Become consultants approved for Port Harcourt
Former Governor of Rivers State and Pro Chancellor ( founder) of PAMO University,Elelenwo Port Harcourt,Dr Peter Odili has lauded incumbent Governor, Nyesom Wike for his unrelenting support for the institution since its take off four years ago.
Speaking at the first Convocation and 4 th Founder’s day ceremonies, Odili who described Wike as one who fulfill his promise disclosed how the governor promised a take off grant of N500 million and redeemed it saying he not only continued to support the institution but extended his kindness to giving scholarship to 100 students of Rivers State origin for 5 years.
The former governor said the number of students admitted for the next academic session has surpassed the number and advised the governor’s successor to learn from Wike’s example.
Odili used the opportunity to announce the presence of regulators for the practice of Medical Science and the proposed establishment in Port Harcourt of a College that would train Resident doctors to become consultants
Highlights were awards of academic degrees to graduating students and Honorary Doctorate degrees to the Chancellor of the institution ,former Head of State,Abdulsalami Abubakar and governor Wike.
In his remark, Governor Wike said he would use the opportunity of being an alumnus of the University to not only being a good torch bearer of the institution but advance his humanitarian principles .
Wike expressed satisfaction with the level of progress made by the institution adding ” Iam proud to be associated with PAMO.”
The Rivers Governor who narrated his political history tracing it to the admistration of Odili and dedicated his ascendancy to God, said he took his destiny into his hands and sought God after getting signals of being made politically irrelevant by his predecessor under whose leadership he served as Chief of Staff.
He disclosed that the scholarship for Rivers sons and daughters in Pamo caused the state government about N2.9 billion yearly and announced a cash reward of N5M to best graduating students and scholarship to further their education.
