Journalists practicing in Rivers State under the umbrella of the Nigerian Union of Journalists,(NUJ) filed out in their numbers to elect officials that would lead the union for a period of three years.
The election comes after months of misunderstanding and disagreement by some members of the union of which a caretaker committee was appointed to oversee the affairs of the council.
The Vice President of NUJ Zone F,Mr Opaka Dokubo dissolved the Caretaker Committee setting the tone for the credentials committee to conduct the much awaited election.
Stanley Job was returned ( Chairman) after polling 150 votes to beat his rival,Paul Bazia who scored 140.
Ike Wigodo scored 169 votes against his opponent Madume Obiandu’s 119 to return as Secretary
Others are Okechukwu Maru ( Vice Chairman,) , Esther Obialor Assistant Secretary and Miebaka Fubara ( Financial Secretary.
The position of Treasurer went to Doris Tam Morrison while Ominini Leslie Wokoma was returned Auditor.
In his Speech, the Chairman,Job said he would improve on the achievements of his first term and assured that issues of welfare would be taken seriously in his second term.
Also on his second term agenda are renovation of the Press Center while promising that the ideas of the Liberation team leader,Paul Bazia would be collated and consolidated to better the union.
He thanked elders of the NUJ for ensuring a peaceful process, and commended the efforts of the National President of the NUJ and the Rivers State Police Command.
