The Nigerian Labour Congress ( NLC) in Kogi State has threatened to give a 14-day altimatum to the state government over non implementation of the new minimum wage or face indefinite strike.
The State Chairman of the Comrade Onuh Edoka, who disclosed this on Friday in Lokoja during the State Executive Council meeting (SEC) of the congress, said the altimatum would be issued on January 25.
He expressed dismay that despite the co-operation and understanding of the worker force, the State government had continued to handle the welfare of workers lackadaisically
Edoka recalled that the state government setup minimum wage committee in February, 2020 with a mandate to turn-in its report within four weeks, but two years after , there was no report , adding that implementation of the new minimum wage implementation remain stalled.
The NLC Chairman who apologised to workers for the delay in taking actions on their issues attributed the developmnt to the belief of the union that it could use peace and diplomacy in resolving all their welfare issues.
Edoka however, urged the affected workers to remain law abiding and await further directive from the leadership of the union.
He disclosed that the Congress had also put forward, the immediate stoppage of percentage salaries paid to local government workers and primary school teachers.
